The Spis take

A tiny, wonderfully time-warped smoking bar off Strøget where the walls are hung with original art — reputedly paid as bar tabs by the artists — and poet Jens August Schade once held court. It's a beloved off-the-radar local hideaway with cheap drinks and sixties charm, run with warmth. Cash only and thick with smoke, so it's not for everyone, but if you want the real old Copenhagen this is it.
