The Spis take

Morgenstedet is the soul of old Christiania on a plate — a tiny, collectively-run organic vegetarian cafe that's been going for decades on volunteer labor and idealism. The daily changing spread of a couple of hot dishes, soups and homemade salads shifts with whoever's cooking, served in a whitewashed house with a lovely pebbled front yard for sunny days. It's cash-only, cheap, deeply charming and worth the visit for the ethos as much as the (genuinely good) food.
