The Spis take

A characterful old Copenhagen 'bodega' bar tucked on Ny Adelgade, an upscale-address dive where retired lawyers, architects and journalists nurse beers alongside artists, over chess, jazz and politics. The draw is cheap, genuinely good simple food, notably the smørrebrød from a tiny kitchen out back, at a fraction of nearby prices, plus an unpretentious, jazz-soaked room. It's a beloved institution and a real slice of the city; come early to get a seat, and know it can get smoky.
