The Spis take
One of Oslo's most historic dining rooms — the yellow house at Sagene traces its restaurant life back to 1855, and after years as the humble Sagene Lunsjbar it reclaimed its original name, Folkvang. Today it's a warm neighbourhood bistro in the Smalhans mould: quality seasonal ingredients, a set evening menu and an unfussy 'accessible quality' philosophy, with a well-loved upstairs room for gatherings. A genuinely characterful spot if you want a proper meal with a sense of place away from the tourist track.
