A genuine Oslo institution: a traditional Norwegian restaurant in an early-1700s heritage building by Stortorvet square, reopened in its current form after a 1903 restoration. It leans hard into old-country cooking, and in the run-up to Christmas it's one of the city's go-to spots for lutefisk and julebord feasts, with a café, à la carte dining and a summer courtyard. Charming and historic rather than cutting-edge, and priced for the setting; it's more about atmosphere and tradition than culinary fireworks (recently trading as "Nye Stortorvets Gjæstgiveri").
