Bring pieces or borrow them for free, drop into a tournament, or just nurse a beer over a game with chill jazz in the background; grandmasters have been known to hang around. It's welcoming to all levels, warm and quirky, and beloved well beyond the chess crowd. If you don't play at all it may feel niche, but that's rather the point.
